My Background…

Hello and thank you for taking the time to look me up!

I live and breath all things fly fishing and fly tying, having spent the last 20 years within the industry, as a journalist, photographer, brand manager, product developer, and content specialist, I’m up to speed on pretty much everything within the sport. (I am, however, like all of us, always learning new things!)

I am a highly-motivated fly fishing guide with an amazing enthusiasm for the sport, a sport which I have been a part of from a very early age. Having been brought up in the Scottish Borders I had access to some wonderful wild trout and grayling fishing on both the world-famous River Tweed and its largest tributary, the River Teviot. The area also has a wealth of hill lochs and small, stillwater trout fisheries. All of which I’d visit on a regular basis before I moved down south to the English Midlands in 2005. Since moving here, I have mastered the large reservoirs, mostly targeting the better, grown trout, and cast a fly on every river within a 100-mile radius – my main focus though has been the Derbyshire Derwent & Wye!

I’ve fished extensively throughout Europe searching out specimen trout and grayling. I have also been fortunate enough to visit many other fly fishing destinations around the World, including the warm-water havens of Mexico, Grand Cayman & Cuba – where I was lucky enough to get my IGFA ‘Grand Slam’.

By spending time and working alongside many outstanding and influential people within the fly fishing game, I’ve had great opportunities to enhance my knowledge, allowing me to become a better, more accomplished angler. With the help of these people, I’ve constantly acquired and developed various skills that have improved both my fishing and guiding abilities.

After working as editor of Total FlyFisher from 2005, at the time, the sport’s newest and freshest fly fishing magazine, I moved on in February 2015 to become the Brand Manager at Wychwood Game Fishing, looking to continue my fly fishing career within the product side of the industry. In 2020 a new position at Guide Flyfishing provided me with a great opportunity, where I could focus on promotional activity, to grow brands, product awareness and of course the sport in general.

I’m a multi-capped England International (despite being Scottish) and I have represented England at all levels of competition, from International to World events.

I have been the English National Champion -winner of the Graham Trophy – part of the gold medal-winning team at 5 Nations Tournament – and also a team member of Osprey when we won the prestigious Lexus Fly Fishing Championships.
